The drive out to Utah was mostly one long stretch of highway, but it was relaxing. The I-80 landscape reminds me of home (Arizona), aside from the beds of white salt here and there. The highlight was
a dinner stop at
Winnemucca, NV, a town settled by Basque cowboys and famous for retaining its Basque heritage. We ate some
Basque food, of course, and it was knock-your-socks-off delicious.
Yesterday my co-presenter and I enjoyed the Salt Lake City environs and hiked up a part of the Timpanogos mountain:

To see the Timpanogos cave:
It was the most breathtaking cave I've ever seen, and definitely worth the hike.
Yeah yeah, I know, I'm here for a conference.

So Jose Saramago wrote "Blindness" and "Seeing"? Interesting. I need to start reading that book! I just have to finish Persuasion and then I'm all over it. I can't wait!
Utah is beautiful. I remember driving through it as a kid and being amazed at the scenery. Those pictures are awesome, and I'm very jealous of your hike!
