I'm embarrassed to admit this... I just redesigned the look of my blog (based on my new profile picture, thanks to photographer Katie Drager) for the primary reason that I wanted to engage with my blog in some way but I couldn't think of anything that I really wanted to blog about! So here I am, blogging about not wanting to blog, as so many of us are doing these days. And I'm doing so just so that you'll get this in your RSS feed and come look at my new purpley colors (which you've seen already anyway if you're may Facebook friend), and leave some kind of comment, so that I'll know "my Xanga community" is still there, with me. Yep. Pretty sad.
I could tell you what's new in my life. I could tell you how I'm teaching, and it's going well, but there are bad days. Or how I'm writing my dissertation, which is going less well, though there have been some very good days recently. Or how it's raining a lot, and the job market's stressful, and the economy's just awful, but we all know that already. What do cynics say about blogging? Uninteresting people talking about uninteresting things? I mean, omg, look at the book I'm reading right now.
Seriously... and it's a fantastic book, too.
So... see you all again when I have something more interesting to say!
P.S. On the other hand, there's always Twitter, which I can't seem to shut up on. Follow me @dialect.

Very purpley! I'm here.
What's up with Twitter? So much social network tech to follow up on. You can always blog about what [edit: why] you twitter!
well, with an overt request for comments like that, i just had to say something! ;)
love the new color scheme, and i hope it will inspire you to come back to the blogging world more often, because it misses you!

@WinsomeWorld - Actually, I already have (this is, embarrassingly, the 6th time I've promoted Twitter on this blog, alone!) For example, http://www.xanga.com/LingGradStudent/661463953/twitter-takes-over/ - But thanks!!
@WinsomeWorld Oh, and if you're looking for someone to really convince you of what's so great about Twitter, check out some of the links (Tweets) at http://twitter.com/mashable
I love the purple!! And the new picture!!
I like the new look. Very cheerful!
If you have Fox News for long, you should check out Glenn Beck. He's on at 2:00 (TOTALLY inconvenient time, I have to TiVo him to watch because 2:00 is a busy time of the day.) I'm curious what you'd think of him - he's a conservative libertarian with an incredibly sarcastic sense of humor. (In fact, the longer I listen to him, the more I find myself identifying with libertarian philosophy rather than Republican, but that could also be because I think Republicans have gone away from my favorite facets of the party - fiscal conservatism, little government intervention and control; a small government overall.) I actually far prefer Beck's radio show to the TV show, he has a hilarious sidekick on radio named Stu, also equipped with an awesomely sarcastic sense of humor. But I'm a bit of a talk radio nut. They have liberal stations up here, too, that we occasionally switch over to to see what's happening and being said on the other side of the aisle. I guess we can gain some understanding of how liberal people feel when listening to Rush when we listen to those shows, though... it doesn't do much to advance our understanding of opposing points so much as it makes us argue with the radio. Funny how that happens :). I am curious if you've heard the whole controversy of Rush saying he wants Obama's policies to fail and what your thoughts are on that. In fact, I often will be listening to talk radio and hear a point about "liberals" believing or saying one thing or another, and think, "I wonder what Lauren's take on that is." You are, after all, my most favorite liberal in the world :). And of course conservative talk radio hosts are going to exagerate the "beliefs" of "liberals" so I figure you would be far better equipped to tell me what liberals believe than a conservative dude behind a microphone.
@Obsydyon OMG, the idea that this could actually happen -- "we can gain some understanding of how liberal people feel when listening to Rush" -- kind of freaks me out, to be honest! I can't imagine how that's an even remotely accurate representation. I mean, I wouldn't trust any representation of conservatism that came out of Keith Olberman's (sp?) mouth, for example... (or representations of liberalism, for that matter...).
As for Glen Beck, I think I've seen his show in snippets on hotel TVs occasionally, but I don't remember much. I do know from watching Ron Paul back in the primaries that it was always a very odd sensation: half of what he said I'd adamantly agree with, and then in the next sentential clause I would do a 180. I think Libertarians (I know, technically he wasn't one, but we all know the truth) share a lot in common with the more liberal, anti-"Democrat" Democrats out there (myself included). There's some technical basis for this in political psychology...
Anyway, maybe we should take this discussion off-Xanga.
you're gorgeous and so is your purple xanga!
and i, personally, would love to hear about your teaching/dissertation battles. i learn so much from you! (i hope that's not creepy...)
I love the purple and I love the new photo. Even though, at this point it's not new. :). Thank you, too, for introducing me to the joys of Twitter. I think it's fun and even a little challenging. Plus, crazily addictive! Have a good spring break! And congrats on a successful first college teaching experience... I know I know so little (that is the one downfall of twitter) but I'm excited for you, nonetheless.
@LingGradStudent - just a quick clarification, when I said "we can gain some understanding of how liberal people feel when listening to Rush" I meant, when I listen to liberal talk radio, I get a little better understanding of why Rush so infuriates the left, not of what the left is actually thinking. Believe me, I know that in general commentators on both sides of the aisles are pretty extreme, and I certainly don't get my idea of what liberals believe from idealogues like Keith Olbermann, just as I gravely doubt most rational democrats get their idea of what conservatives believe from similar right-aisle idealogues like Bill O'Reilly. It's always been my belief that the best place to find an idea of what people on the other side of the aisle believe is the individuals that I actually know, who are going to have far more reasonable and less extreme positions.
@Obsydyon Oh gosh, that makes so much more sense! Yes, I agree with you 110%. :-*
@Obsydyon Um, I thought that :-* was code for
-- but I guess it's not, haha.
thanks for your comment :)
